For students who feel underwhelmed by the school experience in Maths or the Sciences

For the technically minded student this could mean learning hands-on skills like soldering electronics to understand the basics of electric circuits and microchip technology. Often enriching the existing Physics and Chemistry curriculum can be done with experiment kits from M.E.L-sciences. Especially their chemistry kits contain some stunning experiments that will foster the interest of any student for science.

There can also be an overlap to programming, if the student shows interest in that, see Beginners Programming and Advanced Programming . In this case typically a single-board-computer like a Raspberry Pi or an Arduino will serve as the core of the lessons. The student will learn to work with peripherals like sensors, motors and LED-lights and even modify them with a soldering iron while also learning about how to write programs that interacts with those peripherals.

I try to maintain a healthy balance between structure and freedom: The student should develop his own interest and ideas without the stress of exams or the boredom of exercise sets, which means doing his own research, trying out different alternative solutions to an issue and failing sometimes. Yet at the same time I make sure that we do not deviate too far from the topic.

The depth of the projects accomplished during these lessons depend only on the interest of the student and how much time for the lessons is available.
